Curiosity in your leadership

A curious mind is also an open mind. A mind that is willing to look at the world in new ways. A curious and openminded leader, will encourage an environment where psychological safety is essential and the willingness to bring new ideas to board is more the expected than the exceptional.

Opening up for your curiosity makes you open to look at the opportunities that previously seemed impossible. With a curious mindset, the impossible can suddenly be within the zone of the possible.
Aiming for the impossible becomes an exciting journey for learning and growing instead of something that others do.

There are many ways to train and develop your curiosity. You can start with small things, such as noticing how you get out of bed in the morning, change the coffee for a tea and notice the taste, what mood are your kids in this morning, how does your mood affect them, your partner, are you present? Bring the same curiosity with you to work, how do you respond to others, do you react or respond? Do you answer by programming, do you look at the task ahead with fresh eyes?

Five steps to developing your curiosity:

- Conquer fear of the new
- Do something different
- Ask questions
- Search for the positive in every situation
- Eliminate “I’m bored” from your vocabulary

To grow and expand and to go to a deeper level of yourself, curiosity is required. If you go for the expected, not much unexpected will happen. Some might fear the unexpected, but in the unexpected lies great experiences and potential growth.

You have unlimited (and a large amount of unused) potential and so has the people around you. The people that you lead. What if, by showing them the great potential and excitement that lies in being curios, that you inspire them to be high performers - passion performers, that dare to be innovative, curious about themselves and of your customers. A team that dares to look into new ways of doing the tasks that might have become routine.

So how do you start your day? Are you excited about getting to work and find out new things about your colleagues, yourself, your workplace, how your brand is being adopted? Did you notice the changing colors in the woods on your way to work?
